Applying for your learner permit is the first step to getting your licence. To get your learner permit you must be at least:

16 years of age for a car

To get a car learner permit you will need to pass an eyesight test and a multiple choice theory test on road law which is computer based.

To prepare for your car learner permit test you can buy the “Road to Solo Driving” handbook, available in 12 languages.

You can view a read only version of both handbooks online and purchase a copy from any VicRoads Customer Service Centre, RACV office, selected newsagents and bookshops.

Before going for your learner permit test, take the practice licence tests to familiarise yourself with the structure and layout of the tests.

Sit for your test and make sure you pass.

Pay for and receive your Learner's Permit and get ready to Learn to Drive.
Driving is a big responsibility
We will teach you all you need to know regarding Driving sensibly and Road Safety. We want to train Drivers to obey the law and be able competently control a Vehicle. During this period you will:

Work with your instructor until we feel you are competent to pass your test

When we think you are ready book you in to sit your probationary licence test

Pass your probationary license test

Pay for and receive your probationary licence
